This monster, usually known as Imhotep, has battled everyone from Tom Cruise and Brendan Fraser to the Rock Dwayne Johnson, the Scorpion King, and as movies and cinema evolved, we were introduced to several more movie mummies. And while their kill count is always impressive, the track record for mummies is mixed. The classic Mummy series hasn’t aged well, but the Mummy 1999 Mummy reboot, that traded in the creepy thriller for a rollicking adventure tone, was a huge success, and paved the way for sequels like the Mummy Returns and The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor with Jet Li, as well as less successful Mummy reboots like the Universal Dark Universe The Mummy 2017.
